Summary

Etsy has taken a significant step in maintaining the integrity of its marketplace by introducing new guidelines for AI-generated items. The revised seller policy, effective immediately, mandates sellers to classify their products with clear labels indicating the level of human involvement.

The new "Creativity Standards" aim to provide transparency for buyers and acknowledge the increasing presence of AI-generated products on the platform. Sellers must now label their items as "Handmade," "Designed," "Sourced," or "Handpicked," depending on the level of human involvement.

While Etsy permits the use of AI tools in designing items, sellers must disclose this information in their listing descriptions. However, selling AI prompts is no longer allowed, and such listings will be flagged and removed.

Etsy's commitment to keeping commerce human aligns with CEO Josh Silverman's promise to remove listings that violate its Handmade policy. This move ensures that buyers can trust the platform's unique, human-made products.
