The Las Vegas Sphere has amazed audiences with its captivating computer-generated imagery, powered by an impressive array of Nvidia GPUs. In a recent blog post, Nvidia revealed that the Sphere employs around 150 RTX A6000 graphics cards to create its breathtaking visual effects, both inside and outside the venue.

Constructed at a cost of $2.3 billion, the Sphere's visual capabilities are supported by the RTX A6000 GPUs, which launched in December 2020 and currently retail for approximately $4,500 each. These powerful workstation GPUs are responsible for rendering content for the Sphere’s interior 16K by 16K displays and the 1.2 million programmable LED pucks on its exterior.

Sphere Studios, based in Burbank, California, develops custom video content for these massive displays, promoting concerts and special events. Nvidia's blog post highlighted that the visuals are streamed in real-time to rack-mounted workstations equipped with RTX A6000 GPUs, delivering three layers of 16K resolution at 60 frames per second.

To ensure smooth content streaming without stuttering, the Sphere utilizes Nvidia’s networking technology, including Bluefield data processing units and Rivermax software, which focuses on media streaming. This sophisticated setup helps the Sphere maintain its captivating visuals, though it comes with a high energy cost, with estimates suggesting the Sphere could use enough electricity to power 21,000 homes at peak usage.
