Summary

Sony has released a significant software update for the PS5, introducing customizable home screens, adaptive controller charging, and more. This update aims to refresh the console's user interface and features ahead of the PS5 Pro's launch on November 7.

Details of the update are available on the official PlayStation Blog, which notes that the rollout will begin today for select users in the US and will expand globally over the coming weeks.

Key Features of the Update

The standout addition is the new Welcome Hub, which replaces the previous Explore tab. The Welcome Hub serves as a customizable central point on the PS5 dashboard, allowing users to add widgets such as Trophy tracking, a battery life monitor for DualSense, DualSense Edge, and PSVR 2 Sense controllers, friends list, wishlist, and accessibility features. Users can also choose backgrounds for their PS5 dashboard, including animated presets or screenshots from their media gallery, similar to the Xbox Series X and Series S.

Another significant feature is adaptive controller charging, available only on the PS5 Slim and PS5 Pro. This feature allows users to set how much charge is supplied to controllers while the console is in rest mode, stopping once the controllers are fully charged.

Additional updates include 3D audio profile customization for PS5 headsets and earbuds, enabling Remote Play for specific users, and the ability to share party content on external social media apps like WhatsApp and Discord.

Sony has stated that the update will be available to all users over the coming weeks, so if you don't receive it today, it should arrive soon.
