Summary

NTT Data has been chosen by the City of Brownsville, Texas to implement private 5G wireless connectivity throughout the city.

This project aims to create a high-speed, low-latency private 5G network that will improve technological capabilities and drive local economic growth.

According to Jorge Cardenas, Chief Information Officer for Brownsville, "As our city continues to evolve into a tech hub, a private 5G network isn't just advantageous—it's critical. Investing in this infrastructure ensures Brownsville stays ahead in technology and economic development."

In addition to the 5G rollout, NTT's Smart Solutions will provide real-time data analysis, predictions, and insights to help local officials better manage public areas. The initial phase will focus on downtown Brownsville, covering four public parks, the Department of Public Works Yard, and the airport.

NTT will also establish an Internet of Things (IoT) network throughout the city by using both new and existing data collection devices.

Eric Clark, CEO of NTT America, praised the city's leadership for its vision: “Brownsville’s dedication to data-driven insights is setting the stage for an enhanced citizen experience and a sustainable future. With the integration of AI, real-time analytics, private 5G, and Edge devices, this project will transform industries and communities looking to achieve digital transformation.”

Brownsville, located near the Mexican border, is the largest city in the Rio Grande Valley. NTT’s deployment here follows its selection as the prime contractor for FBI IT services earlier this year.
