Samsung has officially introduced the Galaxy Watch Ultra, alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6, marking its ambitious entry into the high-end smartwatch market.
The Galaxy Watch Ultra, designed to rival the Apple Watch Ultra 2, boasts impressive features and a distinct design. The smartwatch features a squircle case with a circular screen, a blend of the Apple Watch Ultra and Galaxy Watch 6 designs. The case is made of titanium, while the screen is protected by sapphire crystal, ensuring durability.
The watch is water-resistant up to 100 meters and includes a customizable "Quick Button" on the right side for initiating workouts and accessing apps. It also features an Emergency Siren and Night Mode, inspired by the Apple Watch Ultra. The 1.5-inch AMOLED display has a 480x480 resolution and a maximum brightness of 3,000 nits for excellent legibility in bright daylight.
The Galaxy Watch Ultra shapes up to be a pretty decent wearable, here are its full specs:
One notable change is the absence of the hardware rotating bezel, likely due to the enhanced water resistance. The Galaxy Watch Ultra is available in a single 47mm size with LTE connectivity.
Samsung is expected to introduce new bands for the Galaxy Watch Ultra, featuring the One-Click band latch mechanism for easy band switching.
The Galaxy Watch Ultra runs on Google's Wear OS 5, offering a grid-based app launcher, media output device selection, enhanced watch faces, and new health features like a Multi-sports tile, Functional Threshold Power (FTP) for cycling, personalized HR zones, and Double Pinch Gestures.
The watch includes a 590mAh battery, potentially offering up to 100 hours in power-saving mode and 48 hours in exercise power-saving mode. It supports 15W charging, fully charging the watch in around 1.5 hours.
The Galaxy Watch Ultra is available in a single 47mm LTE-enabled version. It allows for voice calls and features strong haptic feedback.
The main competitor is the Apple Watch Ultra 2, priced at $799. Another rival is Samsung's own Galaxy Watch 6 Classic, which has a smaller battery and the hardware rotating bezel.
Samsung aims to make the Galaxy Watch Ultra one of the best smartwatches for Android, offering a super-premium experience with exciting features beyond its design.
