Summary

Taishin Bank has joined forces with OneDegree Global, a cybersecurity and risk management solutions provider, to test and validate its AI system, making it the first in Taiwan’s financial sector to establish a responsible AI framework. This initiative comes at a crucial time as global focus on AI compliance grows, with new regulations in Asia and Europe emphasizing the need for secure and ethical practices in the financial industry.

The partnership aims to ensure Taishin Bank’s AI system, known as Taishin Brain, complies with the Taiwan Financial Supervisory Commission’s (FSC) guidelines for AI use in the financial sector.

Taishin Brain utilizes proprietary data and a comprehensive financial and regulatory compliance dataset to train and validate its AI model. It is described as the first Traditional Chinese large language model developed to meet global AI governance standards.

The system employs financial-specific GPT to process various data types, including customer service records, images, and forms, while integrating with internal access control systems to safeguard privacy and data security.

OneDegree’s cybersecurity unit, Cymetrics, uses advanced AI red team and testing solutions aligned with FSC guidelines to verify the AI model’s fairness, security, and privacy protection.

By employing the latest AI attack techniques and methods, Cymetrics ensures the AI system’s safety and integrity before its launch. These testing solutions are integrated with machine learning operations (MLOps) workflows, allowing for continuous testing from model deployment to system go-live, identifying and mitigating risks early in the development process.

Commitment to Responsible AI

Steve Sun, CIO of Taishin Financial Holding, emphasized the importance of information security and privacy in AI adoption, stating, “Taishin Financial Holding prioritizes ethical and transparent standards, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. With the support of excellent partners, we are establishing a responsible AI system central to our AI development strategy.”

Stanley Chou, CIO of OneDegree, added, “We are excited to collaborate with Taishin Bank in validating ‘Taishin Brain’ and leading the way in establishing Taiwan’s first responsible AI system in the financial sector. As regulations evolve, Cymetrics will support clients in managing AI risks and ensuring their AI investments are secure, ethical, and compliant.”
