Yahoo, a major player in the fantasy sports arena, is launching a completely revamped version of its Fantasy Sports app just in time for the 2024 NFL season. This update brings a cleaner design and a wealth of new content for fantasy enthusiasts.
The new app is organized into three main sections. Upon opening, users will see a list of all their fantasy teams across various sports, with football being the most popular. Yahoo also offers fantasy baseball, basketball, and more, aiming to encourage users to explore new fantasy games. The app now includes a News tab with dedicated content for fantasy players and a Scores tab displaying all relevant scores. Previously, this content was part of the Yahoo Sports app, but it is now integrated into the Fantasy Sports app for convenience.
In terms of gameplay, the core mechanics remain unchanged. Yahoo has streamlined the app's design, allowing users to view their entire team on one screen and easily switch between teams. New logos and icons offer customization options, but the app retains a familiar feel for long-time users. Yahoo Sports president Ryan Spoon emphasizes that this update is an enhancement rather than a complete overhaul. The goal is to provide a more comprehensive experience for fans, allowing them to access news, manage their teams, and follow games all within a single app.
Spoon notes that the predictable usage patterns of fantasy football apps guided the redesign. Users typically check the app on Tuesday mornings to review the week's events and set up the waiver wire, with Wednesday dedicated to waiver wire activities. From Thursday night through Monday night, users frequently adjust their lineups and monitor their team's performance. Yahoo aims to improve each aspect of this process, with a focus on the mobile app, which saw high engagement last year.
Since joining Yahoo from ESPN, Spoon has been enhancing the Yahoo Sports platform with new content and features. As the football season begins, users can expect more fantasy-related news, shows, and content. Despite its ups and downs, Yahoo remains a key player in the fantasy sports industry, and this new app is central to its future plans.
