Google has announced a series of new safety features for Chrome, aimed at improving user security while browsing.
These updates include enhanced protection against abusive notifications, stricter site permissions, and more thorough extension reviews.
Continuous Safety Monitoring
Chrome's Safety Check feature will now operate continuously in the background, proactively taking steps to protect users. It will notify users of actions taken, such as removing permissions from sites no longer visited or flagged by Google Safe Browsing as deceptive. Safety Check will also alert users to potential security issues and risky Chrome extensions.
Stricter Site Permissions
Google is introducing a new feature that limits site permissions on Chrome for both desktop and Android devices. Users can now grant one-time access to their microphone or camera, requiring sites to request permission again for subsequent uses. Additionally, the ability to unsubscribe from sites with a single button, previously available only on Pixel devices, is being expanded to more Android devices.
