Jamarkus Garrett Honored for Excellence in Technology and Cybersecurity Fields

Jamarkus Garrett has been recognized in Marquis Who's Who, an esteemed biographical publication highlighting distinguished individuals. Selection for this recognition is based on significant accomplishments, professional visibility, and prominence within one’s field.

With over a decade of expertise in information technology, Garrett has recently made notable strides at Hancock Whitney Bank, a prominent financial institution based in the American South. At their New Orleans branch, Garrett excels as an assistant vice president and operational risk officer. His role involves managing technology, cybersecurity, privacy, risk management, and compliance. Since joining Hancock Whitney in 2022, he has been instrumental in advising various business units and the corporate risk management team, contributing to the enhancement of risk management practices and compliance with industry standards. His exceptional performance earned him the NOLA Tech 30 accolade from NOLAvate Black in 2023, recognizing his impact on New Orleans' tech community.

Garrett's career began as an E-learning course developer at the University of South Alabama, where he progressed through roles including learning management system administrator and tech services clerk. His diverse career spans IT consulting, technical analysis, and federal contracting with notable organizations such as CGI, APM Terminals, Jackson Hospital, and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. He also led technology and risk management consulting for CEB Consulting Solutions, LLC before his current role at Hancock Whitney.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Information Technology from Columbia Southern University, following an associate degree from Wallace Community College. Garrett’s qualifications include certifications as a Certified Risk and Compliance Management Professional and Certified Information Systems Risk and Compliance Professional from the International Association of Risk and Compliance Professionals (IARCP), as well as cybersecurity certifications from the International Information System Security Certification Consortium (ISC2).

Garrett stays active in the industry through memberships with IARCP, ISC2, the American Bankers Association, and the Risk Management Association, and serves on the advisory board for the SANS Institute's cybersecurity leadership summit. His commitment extends beyond professional achievements; he is deeply involved in community service, including career fairs and mentorship programs, aiming to inspire and support the next generation of technology and cybersecurity professionals.

Looking ahead, Garrett aspires to reach an executive-level position and establish a nonprofit to aid in community service, providing educational and basic needs support to underprivileged children. His career is influenced by his mentors, especially his mother, whose dedication to learning has motivated his continuous professional development and philanthropic goals.
