Summary

Adobe is enhancing its design software with new generative AI tools, significantly speeding up creative workflows. The latest updates to Illustrator and Photoshop include advanced features powered by Adobe's new Firefly AI models.

In Illustrator, the new Firefly Vector 2 model introduces several innovative tools. The Generative Shape Fill allows designers to create intricate vector details in shapes using descriptive text prompts. Additionally, the Text to Pattern feature, now in public beta, enables users to craft scalable, custom patterns for various applications, while the Style Reference tool mimics existing design styles.

Illustrator’s update also brings new functionalities like the Dimension tool for automatic sizing information, a Mockup feature to preview designs on 3D objects, and Retype for editing static text in images. More details on these updates are available on Adobe’s official blog.

Photoshop also sees enhancements with the latest Firefly Image 3 Model, including the Generate Image feature, which is now available on both desktop and web versions. This model improves the Enhance Detail feature for sharper, more detailed images. Additionally, the new Selection Brush tool simplifies object selection by allowing users to paint over areas to isolate them from the rest of the canvas.

Since the debut of its Firefly models last year, Adobe has faced mixed reactions. The company’s Firefly models are trained on licensed content from its own stock library, but recent policy updates led to concerns about the use of customer projects for AI training. Adobe’s Deepa Subramaniam emphasized the company’s commitment to using AI to enhance rather than replace human creativity, aiming to empower designers with new tools and innovations.
