Apple Introduces Final Cut Pro for iPad 2 and Final Cut Camera App

On Thursday, Apple announced the release of Final Cut Pro for iPad 2 and the new Final Cut Camera app. These apps were initially previewed during Apple’s iPad event in May, and updates for Final Cut Pro for Mac have also been rolled out.

The iPad version of Final Cut Pro has been enhanced to leverage the capabilities of the new iPad Pro equipped with the M4 chip. According to Apple, the M4 chip allows for rendering speeds up to twice as fast and supports up to four times more streams of ProRes RAW compared to the M1.

Final Cut Pro for iPad 2 introduces a new “Live Multicam” feature, enabling users to wirelessly connect and preview up to four cameras simultaneously. This feature provides a director’s view of each camera, along with manual control settings via the new Final Cut Camera app. This companion app allows users to connect multiple iPhones or iPads, with Final Cut Pro automatically transferring and syncing each Live Multicam angle for seamless transition from production to editing.

The Final Cut Camera app powers the Live Multicam feature and can also be used as a standalone recording app on iPhone and iPad. It offers manual focus adjustments, shutter speed, ISO settings, focus peaking, grid overlays, and more.

Another significant addition to Final Cut Pro for iPad 2 is the support for external projects, allowing users to create or open projects without using internal storage space.

For Mac users, the new Final Cut Pro 10.8 update includes AI-driven features. The “Enhance Light and Color” tool automatically adjusts video color correction, while the “Smooth Slo-Mo” feature blends video frames to improve motion.

Final Cut Pro for iPad 2 and Final Cut Pro for Mac 10.8 are available as free updates for current users. New users can purchase Final Cut Pro for iPad 2 for $4.99 per month or $49 per year. Final Cut Pro for Mac 10.8 is available on the Mac App Store for $299.99.
