Apple is gearing up to introduce two new models of its fourth-generation AirPods this fall, offering users a choice between a more affordable basic version and a premium model with advanced features. According to Bloomberg, the higher-end model is expected to replace the current third-generation AirPods and will include active noise cancellation.
A key factor in the decision to phase out the AirPods 3 is the shift in charging technology. The current AirPods 3 charging case uses a Lightning port, but Apple is moving its entire product lineup to USB-C, starting with the second-generation AirPods Pro. This transition aligns with the broader industry move towards USB-C for more universal compatibility and faster charging.
In addition to the new charging case, the upcoming AirPods models are rumored to feature updated firmware that will introduce innovative head gesture controls and improved noise isolation. Both versions are expected to support Spatial Audio, offering an immersive listening experience. Additionally, the new AirPods cases will likely be compatible with Apple Watch charging, providing greater convenience for users.
The announcement of these new AirPods models is anticipated at Apple's fall event, where the company is also expected to unveil the latest iterations of the iPhone and iPad.
