Apple's latest beta versions of iOS 18 and macOS Sequoia introduce iPhone Mirroring, a highly anticipated feature that allows users to mirror their iPhone directly on their Mac. This functionality, which was first announced at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June, enables seamless integration between Mac and iPhone apps, facilitating tasks such as running iPhone apps on a Mac and transferring files between the devices.
In a WWDC demo, Apple showcased how users can edit a video clip on Final Cut Pro and then seamlessly continue editing on their iPhone. This interoperability is supported by recent updates to Final Cut Pro for Mac and the new releases of Final Cut Pro for iPad 2 and Final Cut Camera.
iPhone Mirroring also allows users to view and respond to iPhone notifications on their Mac without unlocking their phone. The feature supports audio playback from the iPhone on the Mac and is designed to ensure security by keeping the physical device locked while mirroring.
This feature benefits developers who need to demonstrate apps during video calls or live presentations, allowing for easy switching between devices. Additionally, iPhone Mirroring works with Standby mode, providing at-a-glance information when needed.
Currently, iPhone Mirroring is available to developers testing the iOS 18 beta 2 and macOS Sequoia beta 2. Public beta versions will be released in a few weeks, with official launches expected later this fall. Users are advised against installing these developer betas on their primary devices due to potential instability and bugs, including issues with battery life and overheating.
