X, previously known as Twitter, is set to enhance its integration of the Grok AI chatbot across the platform, despite its existing flaws.
Upcoming Features of Grok on X App researcher Nima Owji has identified new code within the X website, revealing the company’s plans for further embedding the Grok AI chatbot. Although these features are yet to be officially launched, Owji's discovery provides a glimpse into Elon Musk's strategy to increasingly rely on AI for the social media platform.
These forthcoming features are expected to be paywalled, similar to the current structure of Grok AI. Initially available for users subscribing to the $16 per month Premium+ plan, Grok has since been extended to those on the $8 X Premium plan.
Owji's findings indicate that X will introduce at least three new Grok-powered features. Firstly, Premium and Premium+ subscribers will soon be able to highlight text on the platform and query Grok directly through a pop-up prompt without leaving the page. Additionally, users will be able to access background information about specific X accounts via a “More about this account” prompt, enabled by a Grok button on user profile cards.
The third feature aims to promote Grok usage throughout the entire platform. A “Grok drawer” will allow subscribers to access the AI chatbot anywhere on X, with a floating window that remains accessible across the site.
Grok's Struggles Grok is the first product from Musk's AI company xAI, which has secured billions in funding. Musk’s prioritization of AI is evident in Grok's deep integration into X, leveraging the platform's extensive user base.
However, Grok has faced several challenges. In April, X relaunched its Explore tab, relying on Grok to generate news headlines and summaries based on trending topics. Unfortunately, Grok has already disseminated dangerous misinformation, including a false news story about Iran launching missiles at Tel Aviv and a fabricated account of the NYPD engaging in a "showdown" with an earthquake in NYC subways.
