In response to rising competition from innovative startups like Arc, Google unveiled five new features aimed at improving the search experience on the Chrome mobile browser. These updates include shortcuts for local search results, an updated address bar, trending search suggestions, live sports updates, and more personalized recommendations, all designed to make mobile browsing more intuitive and efficient. These features are set to roll out soon on both Android and iOS platforms.
One of the key features, Chrome Actions, now integrates with local search results, allowing users to quickly access actions such as "Call," "Directions," and "Reviews" for local businesses. Initially available on Android, this feature is expected to come to iOS later this year.
Google has also revamped the Chrome address bar for iPads and Android tablets, enabling users to access the address bar without leaving the current webpage, thus optimizing the browsing experience on larger screens.
For both iOS and Android users, Chrome will offer new shortcut suggestions based on browsing history. For example, if a user frequently visits the City Metro website after searching for "schedules," this site will now appear higher in search suggestions.
Trending searches, previously exclusive to Android, will now be available on iOS, providing users with insights into popular searches across Google Search. Additionally, live sports cards in Chrome’s Discover Feed will keep users updated with live scores and highlights of their favorite teams. Users can customize this feature via the three-dot menu in the Chrome app.
