As the release of the Windows 11 24H2 update approaches, new information has emerged about an upgraded power-saving feature.
Introducing Energy Saver, a more advanced version of the existing Battery Saver, designed to conserve power more effectively.
Previously seen in testing, Energy Saver offers a significant advantage over Battery Saver: it can be used even when your PC is plugged in. This means you can save energy and reduce your power bill, even with a desktop PC, if you're willing to accept reduced performance.
The latest details about Energy Saver were highlighted by Windows Latest, based on a recently updated Microsoft support document. Energy Saver, like Battery Saver, activates when your laptop's battery reaches a low level, helping to extend battery life. You can also enable it manually.
How Energy Saver Surpasses Battery Saver
Windows Latest summarized the differences between Battery Saver and Energy Saver in a convenient table.
One key change is that when Energy Saver is on, you cannot adjust your device's power mode for optimal performance or battery life, as Energy Saver overrides these settings. To adjust the power mode, you must first disable Energy Saver, which will otherwise grey out the power mode slider.
Additionally, Energy Saver disables transparency effects in windows (unlike Battery Saver) and reduces background app syncing, including OneNote, OneDrive, and Phone Link.
These measures help to extend battery life more effectively than Battery Saver, although both features share similar functions, except for Energy Saver's ability to operate while plugged in.
