Reddit is set to introduce AI-generated summaries at the top of search results, aiming to enhance user experience by summarizing and recommending content. During a recent earnings call, Reddit co-founder and CEO Steve Huffman announced plans to test AI-powered search result pages.
This new feature is designed to help users delve deeper into content and discover new communities on the platform. To implement this feature, Reddit will utilize a mix of proprietary and third-party technologies. The testing phase is expected to begin later this year.
This move aligns with Reddit's recent initiatives, including a partnership with OpenAI announced in May. This collaboration allows Reddit to use OpenAI’s large language models to develop AI-driven features for users and moderators. Additionally, OpenAI has access to Reddit’s data under this agreement. Earlier this year, Reddit also signed a similar deal with Google.
AI advancements were a key topic in the earnings call. Huffman highlighted the success of Reddit’s AI-powered language translation feature, noting significant growth in France. The company is now expanding this feature to include German, Spanish, and Portuguese. This earnings call marked Reddit’s second quarterly report since going public. For the second quarter, Reddit reported 342.3 million weekly active users, a 57% increase from the previous year. Revenue also rose to $281.2 million, surpassing Wall Street’s expectations of $253.8 million.
