AMD’s upcoming NA4RD graphics architecture is beginning to take shape, with new information hinting at the arrival of the Radeon RX Navi 44 XL GPUs.
Although AMD has been tight-lipped about RDNA4, leaks suggest that two new GPUs, Navi 48 and Navi 44, are in the works. These GPUs are expected to cater to the upper-midrange and entry-level segments of the market, respectively.
The latest leak comes from the NBD.ltd shipping database, where a vigilant observer, Everest (@Olrak29_ on Twitter), identified containers marked "NAVI44XL" labeled as carrying "video/graphic cards." Contrary to what one might assume, the "XL" designation typically represents a cut-down version of a GPU rather than the largest variant. This aligns with AMD’s naming convention inherited from ATI Technologies, where "XT" or "XTX" usually denote the most powerful versions of a GPU, while "XL" refers to a more budget-friendly option.
The Navi 44 XL is anticipated to be an entry-level gaming GPU, possibly branded as the Radeon RX 8600, with an XT version labeled as the Radeon RX 8600 XT. It is expected to feature a 128-bit memory interface and utilize GDDR6 memory, continuing AMD’s tradition of providing strong performance at competitive price points. Rumors suggest that AMD might employ a strategy similar to the RDNA 1 launch, focusing on a few key models to gain market share, particularly in the mid-range and entry-level segments, where it could challenge NVIDIA’s dominance.
