Summary

Sony, a prominent name in the smartphone camera industry, is planning a significant rebranding of its image sensors.

Known for supplying high-quality IMX sensors to major brands like Apple, OnePlus, and Xiaomi, Sony is now transitioning its mobile image sensors, including the renowned IMX series, to the LYTIA brand by 2026. This move aims to modernize and innovate its sensor technology in line with the fast-evolving smartphone market.

Recent reports indicate that the 50MP IMX890 and IMX882 sensors have already been rebranded as LYT-701 and LYT-600, respectively. The LYT-600 sensor, for instance, is featured in the vivo X100 Ultra, released in May this year. Sony's LYTIA line, introduced a few years ago, has steadily expanded and now represents the company's future in mobile imaging technology.

The transition to LYTIA aligns with Sony's goal of delivering creative imaging experiences "beyond imagination," a vision shared by many smartphone manufacturers. Notably, Samsung, despite producing its own sensors, is expected to incorporate Sony's LYTIA sensors in its upcoming Galaxy S25 series. Apple CEO Tim Cook has also highlighted Apple's decade-long collaboration with Sony in developing iPhone camera sensors, underscoring Sony's continued dominance in the market.
