The Plastic Apple Watch SE: A Game-Changer for Kids

Apple has a knack for selling the same Apple Watch design year after year, with only minor tweaks. While this consistency is fine since no one needs a new watch annually, it does make the yearly updates a bit predictable.
However, there's an exciting rumor that could shake things up: a plastic Apple Watch SE. Last month, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman hinted at this possibility, and today he elaborated in his Power On newsletter. Apple is reportedly using plastic to make the watch more kid-friendly, which could also mean a wider range of colors. This could be the most exciting Apple Watch update in years.
The Apple Watch is undeniably stylish, but its color options have been somewhat limited. We've seen variations of black, silver, and a muted pink, with Product Red being the only bold choice. Apple has experimented with colors in other products, like the iMac and non-pro iPhones, which have been well-received. Imagine a more colorful, kid-friendly Watch SE. It might not be as vibrant as 90s Nickelodeon colors, but something like the mid-cycle purple or banana-yellow iPhone refreshes could be possible.
The only downside is that this is the SE model we're talking about. While it's a great smartwatch, it lacks some features found in the mainline "Series" watches. I could do without the extra health sensors, but I'd miss the faster on-device Siri and double-tap gesture of my Series 9. However, if Apple adds these features to the Watch SE and offers bold color choices, I might consider switching to a more affordable wearable.
