Summary

While Meta’s AI chatbot has faced mixed reviews, and many AI bots, excluding ChatGPT, have received varied responses, social media platforms are confident that generative AI will play a pivotal role in future user engagement.

In line with this trend, X is working to integrate its Grok chatbot more extensively, aiming to boost its AI capabilities.

After making Grok accessible to all paying users and incorporating it into its “Trending Topics” listings, X is now experimenting with additional integrations to make Grok readily available at any time within the app.

As discovered by researcher Nima Owji in the back-end code of the X app, X plans to ensure Grok is just a tap away across various features.

Firstly, X intends to add a new Grok analysis option on profiles, allowing users to quickly gather more information about any account in-stream. This feature won't offer in-depth performance analysis but will provide a quick summary to help users decide whether to follow an account. Additionally, it could help identify bot or ragebait accounts.

For instance, if an aggressive response to your post comes from an account active for only a few weeks, it might not be worth engaging with. This feature could also reveal political leanings and other biases, offering added context to their responses.

X is also looking to add a Grok analysis option for specific words in any post, providing more context on trending terms or individuals with automated rundowns based on Grok’s databanks, which are compiled from other X posts.

Additionally, X is testing a separate Grok window that can remain active as you use the app, ensuring Grok is always available for quick access and analysis.

This move aligns with X owner Elon Musk’s broader push on AI, which may be partly driven by his disagreements with OpenAI, the company he cofounded and later left due to creative differences. Musk frequently criticizes OpenAI’s shift from a non-profit to a for-profit model and its AI training process, deeming it a societal threat. This perspective has led him to secure significant funding for his own xAI projects.

Given this background, it makes sense that X is seeking more ways to integrate Grok and encourage its use. However, since Grok is currently available only to X Premium subscribers, its impact on the broader AI landscape is limited.

Musk hopes that Grok will attract more users to pay for the app, and if Grok can be integrated in more ways, it might serve as a replacement for traditional media. Musk sees this as a crucial strategy to increase X usage and engagement.

These updates are expected to contribute to X’s broader strategy. While there’s no confirmed launch date for these features, they appear to be on the horizon.
